Moriah
William Paul Wykes, 83, born June 6, 1940 to Geraldine (Landon) and Meredith (Red) Wykes of Moriah, NY. William passed on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 of a long illness.
William went to school in Mineville, NY. He left school due to his eyesight and went to work for Frontier Town. William was a public peace officer for the town of Port Henry, under Don Brewer and Mike Tom. William helped to build the first Ti Paper Mill, worked on building some of the Northway and his last job was working with his cousin in the sawmill and farm. William was a long time member, 1960-2020, of the Moriah Fire Department and he also was a State of New York member of the Fire Police Association. William was the Essex County Fire Police sargent for many years and a member for a total of 60 years. William loved hunting and fishing.
William is predeceased by his parents, Geraldine (1974) and Red (1996) Wykes, his brother Franklin (2011). He is survived by his daughter Norma Jean (Brian) Alger, two grandchildren, Brian T. and Travis. William was very close to his cousin George Landon and family.
William’s funeral arrangements are with the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, NY. A funeral service will be held in the South Moriah Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in memory of William Wykes to the Moriah Fire Department of the Essex County Fire Police.
