Port Henry
Walter J. Mimas, a resident of Port Henry, died July 19, 2020 in Burlington, Vt.
Walter worked for 14 years for Republic Steel in Mineville. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local 106. He served in the Army from 1/24/47 to 6/28/48 as a Military Police.
He was born in South Range, Michigan on October 4, 1929 to John and Mary Mimas who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Helen and Sophie and a brother John and his wife Jeanette.
Walt is survived by his wife of 40 years Geraldine Maye Mimas. He is also survived by his nephew Mike Mimas and his wife Donna and their children; his niece Kris Coonrod and her husband Matt of Willsboro, his niece Patty Crowningshield and her husband Eric of Willsboro and a niece Janie Tomas and her husband Tony of Wisconsin. He also has a number of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sister-in-laws Janice Tyrrell of Severance, NY and Jean Garfield of Alaska.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Sr. Patrick’s Cemetery in Moriah.
