Thomas W. McDonald Jr. (Tom Tom) died peacefully, with family by his side, on January 8, , 2026, at the Helen Porter Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, Vermont. He was born June 10, 1936, son of the late Thomas William McDonald Sr. and Helen Callanan McDonald.
Tom spent his childhood in Port Henry, New York and would graduate from MAI High School before attending Cortland University. After completing his education Tom joined the Armed services and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War Conflict. Upon returning to the states Tom joined the Carpenters Union as a Project manager / Surveyor. His career in the construction industry would take him across the country, and for a stint to the British Virgin Islands on the island of Anegada. He retired from A.P. Reale & Sons June of 2013 after 30 years of service.
In 1978 Tom would meet the love of his Life, Carol J. Murray, they were married on February 25, 1978. The couple resided happily in Port Henry until Carol’ s death on June 13, 2015. Tom was avid outdoorsman with a passion for gardening. When he was not hilling potatoes, you would find him at the Moriah Country Club enjoying his other passions, Golf and Busting Chops with buddies!
Tom was an active member of the Port Henry Community. In addition to over 50 years as a volunteer Fireman, he was an avid member of the American Veterans & Eagle’s clubs. He served as a Village Trustee from 1983 to 1994, and a Moriah assessor from 1994 to 2002.
Tom is survived by (5) Stepchildren from his marriage: Karen (Brian) Long, Thomas Manfred Jr., Holly Cole, Marc Manfred, Charles (Melissa) Manfred; (6) Grandchildren: Eddie (Jade) Wojewodzic, Monica (Carl) Jackson, Nicholas Manfred, Derek Manfred, Carter Manfred & Emily Manfred; (4)Great Grandchildren: Charlie Jackson, Mae Jackson, Aurora Wojewodzic, & Arielle Wojewodzic. He is also survived by his Sisters’ in-law: Anne McDonald & Mary McDonald; his (6)Nieces & Nephews: Mary P McDonald, John (Andea) McDonald, Bridget (Donald) Fawcett, Thomas McDonald (deceased) (Linda), Michael McDonald & Stephen McDonald; and (6)Great Nieces & Nephews: Elisabeth & Rudd Fawcett, Margaret & Anna McDonald, & Julia & Michael McDonald. He was predeceased by his siblings: John, Michael and Helen.
Tom had many dear friends and countless stories of his time spent with each of them. Special thanks to all who looked after Tom Tom over the years. He was grateful to have each of you in his life.
A Funeral Service will be held this Friday, January 16 at 4:00pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry followed by a Celebration of Life at the Knights of Columbus in Port Henry from 5 to 8 pm.
