Suzanne Burhart Baker passed away peacefully in her home on October 17, 2023, with her family by her side.

Suzanne was a lifelong resident of the village of Port Henry.  She graduated from Port Henry High School in 1957 and then attended Albany Business College.  She returned to her hometown to marry her High School sweetheart Bill in1962 and raise a family.

Every job opportunity that came Sue’s way was acquired by employers approaching her, recognizing her amazing work ethic and ability to work with people.  She became the Village Clerk Treasurer of Port Henry, where she remained for 27 years, receiving many accolades for her superior bookkeeping skills.

Sue’s family, friends, and community were a priority to her.  She was always there to help and support everyone.  Known for her superior cooking and baking skills, Sue made sure that everyone knew they were loved through her food. Many dinners and parties were held for family and friends, always extending an invitation to others.  Sue had  numerous hobbies and interests, including a love for golf and was a lifelong member of the Moriah Country Club.  She was a founding member of the local Red Hats group and enjoyed her weekly Mahjong and Pinochle groups. Sue was a volunteer at our local Food Pantry and Senior Citizen Center. Sue loved her friends and family and cherished all of the special times spent with them.

Sue is predeceased by her husband, William Baker, her infant son, Clark Russell, and her parents Clark and Irene LaPeter Burhart.  She is survived by her brother, Bill Burhart of Clarence, NY, her sister in law, Linda Baker Blaise of Mineville, her son Scott Baker of Waterbury, VT, and her daughter and son in law, Julie and Jason Strieble of Moriah.  She is also survived by her grandsons Jay and Jeff Strieble, who she was so proud of and loved deeply.

There will be a celebration mass on Monday, October 23rd at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry, NY followed by a gathering at the VFW in Mineville, NY.  Any donations in Sue’s name can be given to the Moriah Ambulance Squad or High Peaks Hospice.
