Stephanie Hanchett Obituary

Stephanie Hanchett

August 15, 1951 – October 25, 2025

Stephanie Hanchett, 74, passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2025. She was born on August 15, 1951, to Frank and Stella Wojewodzic.

Stephanie attended St. Patrick School, Moriah Central School, and North Country Community College, where she graduated in 1971 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. She began her career at the Mineville Health Center as an X-ray and lab technician and eventually became Director prior to the Center’s closing. She later worked for the Office for the Aging before joining Dr. Jan Guffey at Back to Health Chiropractic. Stephanie eventually retired to lovingly provide end-of-life care for her mother-in-law, Jane Hanchett.

Known as the heart and caretaker of her family, Stephanie’s greatest joy was her loved ones—especially her five grandsons: Owen (“Big O”), Evan (“Rio”), Addison (“Ad”), Porter (“Stanley”), and Carter (“her little warrior”). She could often be found cheering loudly at their sporting events, calling out their nicknames with pride and love.

Stephanie is survived by her children: daughters Jennifer Fleury (Corey) and their sons Owen and Evan; Becki Hanchett (Rob) and her son, Carter; and her son Ward Joseph (Brandy) and their sons Addison and Porter. She is also survived by her brother Michael “Pole” Wojewodzic and her beloved sister-in-law Carlene.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ward Hanchett; her parents, Frank and Stella Wojewodzic; and her brothers, Edward Wojewodzic and Frank “Pete” Wojewodzic.

Stephanie will be remembered for her compassion, strength, and deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the laughter and spirit of those she cherished most.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, Oct.29th at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry with burial to follow in the Parish cemetery. A reception will be held at the Mineville VFW immediately following burial.

In keeping with Stephanie’s love for her family and community, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moriah Youth Sports, 38 Park Place, Port Henry, New York 12974.
