Sandra Prouty Obituary

Sandra Jean Prouty
March 27, 1951 – October 30, 2025

Our beloved, Wife, Mother, and Nana lost her life to cancer on October 30, 2025 after a short but fierce battle.

Sandra (Sandy) was the daughter of Roger and El-Mina (Cowin) Pike and was born on the Barber Farm in Jericho, Vermont on March 27, 1951. Sandy was raised in the area of Hinesburg, VT and graduated from Champlain Valley Union High School in 1970.

Sandy married the love of her life, and best friend, Edwin Prouty on May 18, 1969 and they celebrated 56 happy years together. Together, they raised their family in Lincoln, Vermont where many happy memories were made. Most recently, Edwin and Sandra made their home in Port Henry, NY.

Sandy is survived by her beloved husband Edwin Prouty and her three children Samantha Kachmar (Michael) of West Addison, Vermont, Edwin C. Prouty (Corrina) of Port Henry, New York, and Todd Prouty (Victoria) of Lincoln, Vermont. Some of her favorite people were her six grandchildren Britney Marsano (Logan), Rebecca Kachmar, Andrew Kachmar, Alex Prouty, Jacob Prouty, and Charlie Prouty and three step-grandchildren Erica Garrison, Danielle Bilow (Brandon), and Nicole Fleury. Sandy was so excited for the birth of her Great-grandson Dean Marsano and also enjoyed her step-great grandchildren Alita, Kobe, Nathalia, Mariecia, Brooke, Brianna, Brystol, Jaylynn, Hayden, Kaylynn, and Payton.

Sandy is also survived by her brother Keith Pike (Grace) and Wanda Mitchell (Michael), former sister-in-law Elizabeth Pecor (Chet), and her best friend – and “partner in crime” – Roberta Leggett. There are numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly, too many to list all by name.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, LeeRoy Cowin.

Sandy was a member of the Port Henry Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, Vice President of Moriah Senior Center, and a member of the Red Hatters. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing and raising mischief. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she turned her home into a Christmas Wonderland. She was famous for her peanut butter fudge and homemade chocolates, as well as decorating wedding cakes in her younger years.

Oh, the stories we could tell! She will be missed dearly and thought of everyday. Family was important to Mom, and she was happiest surrounded by the laughing chaos of her loving husband, children, and grandchildren.

Till we meet again…

A wake will be held November 12, 2025 between 5:00 and 6:00pm, with a service to follow. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
