Ruth Cawley passed away on May 21st 2025 twelve days short of her 97th birthday in Rochester, NY after a brief battle with cancer. She was born June 2nd 1928 to the late Sophia and Michael Nagy in Witherbee, NY. She spent her early years working on the family farm nestled among the Adirondack Mountains which she loved so much. She graduated from Albany Business College becoming a legal secretary, then later a court stenographer, working for 38 years. Her passions were golf, her piano and organ, painting, walking, and horseback riding. She was a member of the Guilderland Artist League for many years. She taught a seniors art class in Guilderland, NY for many decades and openly shared her love of nature and the beauty of the natural world with her class. She was a charter member of Pinehaven Country Club for 36 years playing in many tournaments around the area. She also enjoyed her friends at the senior complex where she lived and most especially their Friday night “elevator girls” get togethers. She was the loving wife of Walter Cawley whom she married in 1997 and is survived by sons Kevin (Kathy) Cawley, Sean Cawley, sister Sylvia Murray, and many nieces and nephews and their children. A private memorial service will be held “up home” in the mountains she so loved. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Regional Food Bank / Guilderland Food Pantry
