Rory Gibbs Obituary

Rory Scott Gibbs died unexpectedly on September 19, 2023, in Burlington VT.

Born August 22, 1966, to Roland and Turzah Gibbs, he was a lifelong resident of Crown Point. He graduated from Crown Point Central School in 1984 at which time he joined the United States Army serving 1984 to 1988. Upon returning home he began a lengthy career in the construction field. Working for local contractor Carl Ross (AKA “Uncle Carl”) before joining the PC Construction Company in 1996.

On June 29, 2002, he married Jodi Duval Gibbs. Together they created a beautiful home where they enjoyed hosting family and friends.

After his discharge from active-duty military, he had a desire to continue to serve which led him to join the Vermont National Guard in 1991. He proudly served, bravely fought, and safely returned home from both Iraq, “Operation Iraqi Freedom” (2004-2005) and Afghanistan “Operation Enduring Freedom” (2010-2011).

He could build anything, most recently an addition to his garage to enhance the party space. An avid Nascar fan, he had just returned from his favorite location, Bristol Motor Speedway. He was never one to shy away from conversation or a cold beer. He easily made friends wherever he went.

He was predeceased by his father, Roland Gibbs, mother-in-law, Jeanne McMurtry and sister-in-law, Michele Meehan.

He is survived by his wife, Jodi Gibbs, mother, Turzah Gibbs, brothers Stephen (Deborah) and Vaughn Gibbs, his children Joshua (Kayla), Jacob and Alexis Gibbs and his grandchildren, Jayla Rae, Silas, and Micah Gibbs, brother-in-law Jamie (Melissa) Duval and father-in-law, James (Angel) Duval. He is also survived by his “Dad,” Clarence Gibbs and his “sisters” along with his “Mom” Joan Michaels and her children with whom he often enjoyed a “two-beer stop”.  While he strived to be a friend to all, he had several close friends and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be remembered fondly by all that knew him, whether it be for a moment or a lifetime.
