Obituary

Stanley, NY- Randall Lee Gadway, age 76, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

          A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Mineville, NY at 11 a.m. on Saturday (May 13th). Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stanley-Hall-Gorham Ambulance, P.O. Box 57, Hall, NY 14463

          Randall was born Feb. 15, 1947 in Witherbee, NY. He was the son of the late Edward and Mildred (DeCoste) Gadway. Randall started out as a miner in Mineville, Gouverneur and Tahawas, NY, and transitioned over to a safety inspector with the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), where he inspected nearly every type of mine along the eastern seaboard, to include coal. He was also a certified Electrical Inspector. His final career assignment was Supervisor with the MSHA Field Office in Geneva, NY, retiring in 2010. Through his efforts he has prevented countless injuries and fatalities in the Mining and Industrial Industries.

          Randall enjoyed vegetable gardening, picking berries, juicing fruits and canning his produce along with his wife. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating in the Adirondacks with his family members. He also enjoyed bowling, swimming, dancing, playing the guitar and mowing his large lawn.

          Randall and Carolyn were high school sweethearts who did everything together. He loved his grandchildren and great-granddaughter and all his family. Randall was a resilient man, who always put his family first.

          Randall is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn M.  Gadway; son, Jeffrey (Katherine) Gadway; daughter, Valerie (Robert) Burns; four grandchildren, Samuel Gadway, Gabriel (Margaret Johnson) Burns, Madelyn Gadway and Emily Burns; one great-granddaughter,  Freya Burns; two brothers, Andrus (Joanne) Gadway and Michael (Marcia) Gadway; two sisters, Shirley (Joseph) Marinello and Christine (Greg) Stone; and many nieces and nephews.

          Randall was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mildred Gadway; his brother, Maurice Gadway; and two sisters, Rebecca Wolffe and Lorraine Landon.
