Michael Wehnau (39) of Moriah, NY passed away on March 28, 2022 at his home with his wife by his side, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Born October 3, 1982 at Glens Falls hospital to Dottie (Clickner) and Vic Wehnau, he resided in Schroon Lake, NY with his parents and older sister Valerie.
Always his own person, Mike wore a bowtie almost everyday of kindergarten. He continued his individuality throughout high school at Schroon Lake Central and Adirondack Community College. After high school, Mike attended Daniel Webster College for Aviation pursuing his love of flying, as well as Clinton Community College.
After working at Glens Falls National Bank for fifteen years, Mike pursued another passion and trained to be a welder, leading to employment at Hubbardton Forge. He remained employed there until the pandemic started and he received his cancer diagnosis.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed all activities living in the Adirondacks provided. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking, and collecting rocks and Herkimer Diamonds. He also enjoyed playing hockey, participating in the Adirondack Over 30 League as goalie. As many family and friends can attest, he was highly skilled at making airplanes out of any material available, making origami crafts, creating Paracord bracelets, key chains, and other gifts. His kind, gentle and funny nature was adored by all that knew him.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Sarah, and their beautiful children Malcolm, Oliver, and Eleanor, fur babies Biscuit, Tweeker and Buster; mother (and Peter Johnson); father (and Lynn Wehnau); sister Valerie Marshall, her husband Mark, and their two sons, Ethan and Copper; Nancy Hastings, Dave Hastings , Chris and Erin Carver, David Hastings, niece Grace Hastings, his fraternity brothers from Phi Beta Upsilon and many beloved family, friends, and colleagues.
Mike was predeceased by all his grandparents, step-father Bruce Robinson, Aunt Grace and Uncle Jim Maynard, Aunt Carolyn Belinski, and cousin Justin Maynard.
Calling hours will be Friday April 1st 6pm-8pm at Harland Funeral Home, 4279 S Main St, Port Henry, NY 12974.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday April 2nd 1 pm at Edgemont Inn, 284 Edgemont Rd, Moriah , NY 12960.
