Michael William Vanderhoof, known to everyone as Moss, passed away at 51 years old at his home on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was born in New Britain, CT to Carolyn (Haran) Gordon and the late Michael George Vanderhoof.

Moss was a long time employee of Reale Construction until he became sick. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and camping with his two sons who were his pride and joy. He graduated from Moriah Central School in 1989. He spent his childhood growing up in Moriah with his many cousins and friends. Moss will mostly be remembered for his wild adventures with his good friends and family.

Moss is survived by his two sons, Michael Joseph James Vanderhoof and Matthew William Vanderhoof; his mother and step-father, Carolyn (Haran) and Gary Gordon; his sister, Heidi Snow and his niece Hailey Crossman; also many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his father Michael George Vanderhoof, his cousin Jason Vanderhoof and both paternal and maternal grandparents, Pat and Maude Vanderhoof and Doris Provoncha and David Haran Sr.

A church service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at the V.F.W. in Witherbee immediately after.
