Louise Johnson Obituary

Louise Christina Johnson finished her journey in life May 15, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. The eldest of 9 siblings, she was born in Ticonderoga on January 28, 1924 and grew up on Chilson Hill.

Louise was predeceased by her son Thomas Johnson, husband Francis Johnson, sister Helen (James, deceased) Martin, brothers Francis (Pauline, deceased) Bright, and Jack (Bertha) Bright; survived by sisters Shirley (Robert, deceased) Noel, Ruth Ann (Russell) Burns and brothers Robert, Thomas, and Norman Bright. She is also survived by her children Jerry (Doreen) Johnson, Mike (Kathy) Johnson, Cindy (Mel) James, Bob (Jill) Johnson, Sandy (Bernard) Beebe, Bill (Maryann) Johnson,

Rick Johnson, Judy Johnson and Scott (Beth) Johnson; grandkids Jeff, Todd, Robin, Jennifer, Lindsay, Kristen, Molly, Hannah, Onja, Ariel, Jalen, Jared, Jordan, Jake, Jackie and Christopher; 19 great grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1942 and left the area immediately to assist in the World War II effort. She was employed by GE and assembled radar equipment for the US Navy.  She also worked at Ellis Hospital during this time as a nurse’s aide. She really enjoyed working and being a part of the War effort.  After the War, Louise moved back to Ticonderoga and married Francis (Lindy) Johnson and moved to Port Henry and raised 10 children. While raising her family she was a member of the Methodist and Presbyterian Church and volunteered in multiple areas of the Town of Moriah. She was recently recognized by Governor Hochul for her long commitment to the community. Louise also volunteered with her dear friend Carol Trapasso at the Port Henry Chamber of Commerce information station where they gave out of towners directions to where we have no idea as neither one had any sense of direction.

She was a lifelong church member, avid pinochle player and adventurous traveler with her many children. She was fiercely independent, a joy to be around who always had a quick wit, ready smile, and contagious giggle. Louise believed the key to a full life was to keep your family close, have fun, never slow down and keep moving every day - which she did until the very end.  She has left a huge hole in everyone’s heart that can’t be filled and will be thought fondly of, daily, by those who had the immense pleasure of loving her.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 4-7 pm at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 18th  at 11:00 AM at the Mount Moriah Presbyterian Church in Port Henry. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Port Henry.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
