Laura L. Venne, age 68, passed away June 2, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Laura was born May 17, 1957 in Plattsburgh, NY, the daughter of John and Mary (Tom) Harris.

She is survived by her husband Brian, son Lucas (Joe), daughter Brianna (John) Boyea, second daughter Kelly (Anthony), her parents John and Mary Harris, brothers John (Julie) Harris, Matt (Donna) Harris, Chris (Marina) Harris, sister Julie (Ron) Baker, extended family Paul Bascomb and family and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her son Dain who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012. Laura was a proud Gold Star Mother.

Laura loved her flower garden. She enjoyed retail therapy following her cancer infusions. She was our organizer for family outings and holidays. Her faith, strength and resilience became a compass for us all, our true North.

Laura was a Biology teacher at Moriah Central School, where she left a legacy with her students. She not only taught science but also taught about life. Her motto was leave the world a better place than what you found it. She indeed fulfilled that.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 6 from 5-8 PM at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A funeral mass will be on Saturday June 7 at 12:00 noon at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Moriah.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to one’s favorite charity or adopt a soldier overseas.
