Lari Trapasso Obituary

Lari Samuel Trapasso passed away peacefully at his home in Moriah, New York on January 12th, 2025, at the age of seventy-five. He was born on October 26th, 1949, in Ticonderoga, New York to the late Rita and Sam Trapasso. He is survived by the love of his life Margaret “Meg” Trapasso. They married in 1973 and made many memories over their more than 52 years together. He is also survived by his beloved kitten, Mandy.

Lari graduated from Moriah High School in 1967. He furthered his education and achieved an associate in applied science degree in Mechanical Engineering from SUNY Delhi College. In August of 1969, he was fortunate enough to have experienced the Woodstock music festival.

Lari enjoyed many different jobs throughout his life. In his early years he worked at Gunnison Orchard. He then went on to work for David Laing Logging and then Ronald Sargent Logging. He enjoyed working alongside lifelong friends. After learning from David and Ronnie, Lari ventured out and started his own logging company, Trapasso Logging, earning the name Lari Logger. He eventually took a job at Standard Register in Vermont where he retired after 20 years of employment. After retiring and spending some quality time with his loving wife, Meg, she eventually packed his lunch and sent him back to work. He enjoyed working construction at AP Reale and Reale Construction alongside his brother Howie Swan, Sr. his nephews Howie, Steve, and Barton Swan.

Lari was a true public servant. He joined the Moriah Fire Department in 1968 where he proudly volunteered for 57 years. During his tenure, he successfully served on the Board of Fire Commissioners for his community, held the office of Captain, and spent several years as the Senior Pump Operator. At the time of his death, Lari was the oldest active member with the most years of service. He loved the friends he made during his decades of service.

Lari was a lifelong member and former President of the Moriah Country Club. During his presidency, Lari insisted that his family call him “President Trapasso.” Lari was always the life of the party, a devoted husband, son, brother, and uncle.

He was a gifted storyteller which often led to someone peeing their pants. The countless memories and adventures experienced in pursuit of the annual Christmas Tree Hunt will always be remembered. The names of those in attendance have been changed to protect the innocent. To the many hunting stories and other incidents that cannot be disclosed in print at this time. Without a doubt, most will agree that Lari Trapasso was one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lari is survived by his brother-in-laws Mike Hughes, Sr. (Tina), Jimmy Hughes (Patti), and sister-in-law Linda Swan. He is also survived by Dave Swan (Mary), Dick Swan (Rebecca), Bob Swan (Lynn) who he considered his brothers along with many devoted cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Sam and Rita Trapasso, father & mother in-law Art, Sr and Eleanor Hughes, brothers Howie Swan, Sr. and wife, Claudia Swan, brother Paul Swan, sister Sue Murdock and husband, Billy Murdock, brother-in-law Artie Hughes, Jr., nephews Ronnie and Donnie Murdock, nieces Loni Orr and Kim (Gary) Alia.

Calling hours will be at Harland’s Funeral Home, in Port Henry, NY on January 20th, 2025, from 6 – 8 p.m. The burial at Union Cemetery and Celebration of a Life well lived will occur in the spring at a time to be announced.

It is no coincidence that the calling hours will occur on the same day that President Elect Donald Trump will be sworn into office. Lari was anxiously awaiting to be called up to serve in the Trump Administration but was even more anxious to learn that he had to undergo an FBI background check before being confirmed by the Senate.
