WAGSTAFF, Kazuko Ohashi
Kazuko Ohashi Wagstaff (Kay), 95, passed away on September 10, 2022. Kazuko was born in Hokkaido, Japan on January 11, 1927, the 6th of 11 children. She came to the United States in 1959 after marrying her husband, Jerry, and lived for many years in Massapequa, NY and spent the last 34 years in Port Henry, NY.
Kazuko was truly one-of-a-kind. A tiny little woman with a huge personality. She welcomed everyone – a true believer in “the more the merrier”. She was extremely creative and talented and loved making crafts of all kinds. She was an expert seamstress and even made sample dresses for a NYC designer, Cathy Hartwick. One of her biggest joys was giving away her hand made gifts, especially knitted socks. Kazuko loved gardening, feeding the birds, trips to the casino, and watching sumo wrestling, but was always happiest laughing and being with family and friends.
She is survived by her three daughters, their spouses, and her grandchildren: Kathleen Wagstaff and Michael Blaise, Mayumi; Carol and Eric Adair, Kevin and Collin; Judy and Matthew Donohue, Thomas and Kyle; her older brother Saburo Ohashi (Itseko) and her sisters, Fumiko Nishiyama (Bunnoske) and Yasuyo Kakegawa (Yutaka). She was predeceased by her loving husband Jerry; her parents Kunitaro and Suea (Shoi) Ohashi; her son Shinichi Muto; siblings Mitsuko, Tomoyoshi, Morie, Kiyoshi, Kunio, Masato, and Yoshiyuki Ohashi.
Calling hours will be at the Harland Funeral Home, 4279 South Main Street, Port Henry, NY on Saturday, September 17 from 3 – 5 pm. Burial will be at a later date in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery where she will join her husband, Jerry.
