Kay (Carpenter) Hanson
4/21/1947 – 10/20/2023
On October 20th 2023 Kay Hanson 76, passed away at her home in Moriah after a long battle with cancer with her family and friends by her side. She was born in Port Henry, NY in April of 47’ and spent most of her life in the Adirondacks. She had many careers over the years, but her favorite was Moriah Court Clerk where she remained for several years before retirement. She then spent countless hours bartending at the Eagles Club in Moriah, NY. She was well known for her jokes, quick wit and card tricks. Kay always knew how to make a room laugh.
Kay loved bingo, going to the casino and playing cards with her friends, but most of all her favorite things was bragging about her four grandchildren Kaycee, Todd, Jack and Alexis that she was so proud of.
There were some very special people in her life that we are so thankful for. Christa C. is a very special part of our family and was thought of her as a second daughter. Kay had several close friends that were always there including Cynitha and family, Mary D., Mary Jane S., Red, Phil and Kevin. Paula was her chemo buddy, who took her to almost every chemo appointment. We also can’t forget the special staff of Elizabethtown Hospital. Kay grew very close to the people who cared for her there and stayed in touch with her after she went home.
Kay was predeceased by her husband Peter A. Hanson, her mother Izora D. (Straight) Carpenter, her father Robert F. Carpenter Sr. and her younger brother James W. Carpenter of Ohio. She is survived by her brother Robert (Skip) F. Carpenter Jr. and sister-in-law Joan Gross Carpenter of Sand Lake, sister Darleen I. (Carpenter) Thompson and Kjell Gunnarsen of Sparrow Bush, daughter Tammy (Keast) Malbon and son-in-law Todd J. Malbon of Mineville, son Jason R. Hanson and daughter in law Kristin (Kourofsky) Hanson of Morrisonville, NY. Kay also leaves grandchildren Kaycee Kolodzey and Todd R. Malbon of Mineville, Jack and Alexis Hanson of Morrisonville and many nieces and nephews. There will be a grave side service at the South Moriah Cemetery on Friday, October 27th at 11:00am for Kay and then directly following a Military Service for her husband, Peter Hanson. Immediately following there will be a gathering at the Knights of Columbus in Port Henry.
