Kathy J. (Boyea) Groshans

On Monday, September 4th, Kathy J (Boyea) Groshans, 47, tragically passed away due to an auto accident. She was born May 5th, 1976 to Victoria (Briggs) Boyea and the late Lloyd Boyea, SR in Auburn, NY.

Kathy was one of the kindest souls with the biggest heart. She loved being outside, she loved camping, fishing, and hiking, her favorite was Big Hollow. She found great comfort and enjoyment listening to her music. She had quite the green thumb, educating herself on gardening and loved caring for all her plants. She was an avid animal lover, taking in random strays and always having a houseful (and yardful!) of animals. Her dog Abby was always by her side and she was particularly fond of her ducks. Kathy had a love for adventure and loved going on cruises with her best friend, Debbie Gonzalez, who was always there for Kathy. While she had a boisterous personality with a loud whole-hearted laugh that allowed her to make friends wherever she went, it was her kind, loving, nonjudgmental qualities that transformed them into lifelong friends. She would do anything for anyone, no questions asked.

Above all, she loved her family. She was proud coming from large immediate and extended families, regardless of how distant, she loved each of them dearly. Her whole life was centered around her family. Her smile was never brighter than when she was with her children, and even more so, her grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Mimi". Her 3 children and grandchildren were the light of her life! They include: son Steffen Boyea (Nevina Keller) of North Hudson with Caiden, Scarlett, Madisyn and Noah; son Ryan Young of Moriah Center with Hunter and Hayden; and daughter Eliza Boyea of Port Henry with Lucas, Ryder, Owen, and Willow. Her greatest joy came from her grandchildren, spending as much time as possible with them. She assisted her daughter with the day-to-day care of her children and they adored their Mimi.

Kathy was predeceased by her father, Lloyd J Boyea, Sr and her eldest brother, Lloyd "Joe" Boyea, Jr.; her paternal grandparents Leo and Celinda "Jo" Boyea and maternal grandparents Helen (Bill) Conway and Richard Briggs, Sr.

In addition to her children, Kathy is also survived by the rock she always leaned and depended on, her mother, Victoria Boyea of Moriah Center. The children of her late brother Lloyd "Joe" Boyea, Mark (Shelby)Boyea, Todd Boyea (Cailin Curler), Seth Boyea and Megan (Garfield) Darnely; brother Pete (Dawn) Boyea of Moriah Center with Dustin (Samantha) Boyea and Jenna (Dave) Kolodzey; and her sister Lacey LaCourse (Brian Mattison) of Ticonderoga with Savannah, Kailey, and Nathan LaCourse. Along with serveral great-nieces and nephews, many aunts and uncles and many many cousins, 

Kathy maintained a close relationship with her ex-husband, Dale Groshans. 

Kathy's passing has left a whole in our hearts that can never be filled, we will miss her dearly and love her always.

Calling hours will be on Thursday September 14th from 5-7pm with a short service concluding at Harland Funeral Home, 4279 S Main St  Port Henry, NY. There will be a small coffee reception following the services at Kathy's mother's home in Moriah Center.
