Joseph E. Pratt III, 69, passed away on January 6, 2026, in North Hudson, New York. Born on August 15, 1956, in Ticonderoga, New York, Joseph lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, deep loyalty to those he loved, and a spirited passion for the things that brought him joy.
A proud union sheet metal worker, Joseph was a member of Local 83 in Albany and Local 17 in Boston. His career spanned decades of skilled labor and craftsmanship. Among his many projects, he took particular pride in working on Gillette Stadium—a job that not only showcased his professional talents but also sparked his enduring devotion to the New England Patriots.
Prior to joining the union, Joseph was the proud owner of the Cadillac Ranch bar in Moriah, New York.
Joseph was known for his strong work ethic and even stronger personality. Nicknamed “Rip & Tear,” he approached home improvement projects with gusto and determination. Whether it was fixing up a room or building something from scratch, he poured himself into every task with energy and enthusiasm.
Beyond his work life, Joseph found peace and happiness in nature and music. He loved fishing and boating—pastimes that allowed him to enjoy the outdoors and unwind. His vegetable garden was a source of pride each season, cultivated with care and shared generously with others. A talented musician, he played both guitar and keyboards, often filling his home with music.
For many years he enjoyed hosting his annual pig roast. Legendary among friends and family alike, this event reflected his love for gathering people together over good food and laughter. It was just one of the many ways he showed how much he cared—beneath his famously tough exterior was a huge heart always ready to help others.
He is survived by his devoted wife Patricia Pratt; daughter Heather Nolette; sons Joseph Morin and his husband Jerry, and Michael Pratt; sister Adel Allen and her husband David; brothers Michael Pratt and his wife Dawn, and Steve Pratt; as well as several grandchildren who brought joy to his later years. He is also survived by his niece, nephews and cousins.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph A. Pratt II and Delores (Vantassell) Pratt.
His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—with calloused hands that built so much more than structures: they built memories, traditions, and bonds that will endure.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be planned in the spring.
