John P. Spring passed away on November 27, 2021 doing what he loved-deer hunting in his favorite tree stand. John was born at Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga, New York on September 15, 1968 to Robert S. and Lorna Spring. John graduated from Crown Point Central school in June 1986, and left that September for Paris Island, South Carolina, to become a marine. He graduated from boot camp in December. His first duty station was Camp LeJeune, NC, but he was able to travel the world. This was one of his great accomplishments.
On October 17, 1987 he married his high school sweetheart, Jill Pertak, and was married for 34 years. They spent their first year apart, as man and wife, while he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Once his overseas duties were complete, they were back in Camp LeJeune. This is where they welcomed their first son, Jacob. They returned to Crown Point to raise their family and added their youngest son, Jaice. John began his career in 1990 at International Paper where he was currently employed for 31 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed teaching his boys his love for the outdoors, hunting deer, calling in turkeys, fishing, and using recreational toys. He also enjoyed watching his sons excel in sports.
His proudest title besides “Dad” is “Pa,” to Riley John and Raelyn Amanda. Even though they are 6 and 4, their Pa engrained his love for the outdoors in them, which will carry them through their lives ahead.
After their sons were grown, Jill and John enjoyed their Harley Davidsons, turkey hunting, traveling, and Fenway Park with Hope Ann.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his angel, Hope Ann Lacey. Survivors are his wife Jill, his son Jacob and his children, Riley and Raelyn, as well as their mother, Paige Dolback. His son, Jaice and girlfriend, Kelsey Wertz, and her daughters Miyah, and Morgan. His father-in-law and mother-in-law Francis and Bette Pertak, siblings Art (Sue) Spring, Brenda (Roger) Meachem, Bobby (Tammy) Spring, Linda Lang (Ralph Lane), Sharon (Bob) Norton, his brother-in-law, Randy (Carrie) Pertak. He has several nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and great nephews.
Other special family members are Belinda (Robert) Lacey, Andrea (Brian) Richardson and Leif (Amy) Henecke.
The family would like to thank all of the emergency responders, our local community friends and family, who responded to the call.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021 from 6-8 PM at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry. A Celebration of John’s life will be held in the summer of 2022.
