John F. McDonough of Mineville, New York, passed away on March 16, 2022. He was born on November 19, 1956 in Ticonderoga, New York to Ruth McDonough (Fisher) and the late John F. McDonough.
John served his country and gave his family the opportunity to experience life around the globe. He loved anything with an engine and speed and that included downhill skiing; and took pride in rebuilding engines and restoring cars. He adored his two daughters and always told them with hard work they can do anything and anything worth doing should be done at 100%. He cherished his grandchildren and was always their “go to” when they had questions.
He was predeceased by his brother Todd A. McDonough and his grandmother Georgianna Fisher, whom he adored. He is survived by his daughters Melody A. McDonough and Christina E. Slattery; grandchildren Vittoria M. Abell, Sean P. Abell and Makayla A. Slattery; his sister Deborah Mascarenas (John); nephews Sean, Michael and David Mascarenas; uncle Richard Fisher and his beloved dogs, Zoey and Mack.
John could be very tough, rigid, hard headed, but you will never find a more kind-hearted man. He was never fake with his feelings and always straight forward. He will be remembered for the constant love and support to his family. Most will remember John for his ability to bring a smile to everyone’s face with his charm and straightforward demeanor. To be a friend of John’s was knowing what it feels like to have another sibling. His friends were family.
Our dad lived simply, most often saying that every day is a gift; rules are made to be broken; and life is not about the destination but the journey that it takes you on.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation in the name of John to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A Catholic mass will take place at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry, New York on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at 10:00am.
