John Kordziel Obituary

John W. Kordziel, Jr.

1950-2022

John “Yonchie” Kordziel, 72, of Mineville, NY passed away on August 20, 2022. He was born on April 6, 1950. He was the son of predeceased John and Dorothy Kordziel and his significant other of 17 years, Marilyn Boyce.

He is survived by his brother Joseph Kordziel (Neil), Julie Harris (John), and Janet Sleeper (Richie).

He is also survived by three children: Penny Shrodek (Larry), Brandi Kordziel (Kenny) and Adam Kordziel.

John’s grandchildren: Bryce Herwerth, Lazarus Shrodek and Lysias Shrodek.

John went to Moriah High School. He loved the Moriah Vikings. He liked going up to their games and cheering them on for many years after he graduated.  He also served in The National Guard for 2 years right out of high school. He was quite the marksman. He received the Sharpshooter Award in his unit. He devoted his whole career life to Ticonderoga Paper Mill. (1968-2012) When he retired, he had 44 years with the company.

He enjoyed playing and coaching softball for many years after high school with his friends/teammates up at the Linney Field. John loved watching old westerns and sports on tv. His favorite teams were L.A. Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys. Dodgers are in the playoffs this year. We know he’s watching the games from Heaven now. He also loved going down to Saratoga tracks and watching the horse races in the summer. His favorite treats were chocolate swirl ice cream and chocolate cake. He loved doing scratch offs too!

In his younger days, he enjoyed going hunting with his father and their hunting party. His sisters and brother remember him jamming to “3 Dog Night” and “James Gang” in high school and riding around in his sharp looking purple Charger. He loved his small town and area he grew up in. He never wanted to live anywhere else.

We were lucky to have him in our lives for so many years and he will be forever in our hearts.

Per John’s request there will be no public calling hours. His burial will be August 29, 2022 for immediate family only.
