Jeffrey Richard Ross, 42, of Crown Point, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025 surrounded by his family, friends, and life partner after complications from his recent Leukemia diagnosis at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, VT.
Jeff was born on May 1,1982, the beloved son of Michael and Lynn Ross, and baby brother to Keith Ross and Michelle DuShane.
He built a life with his partner, Kathryn Zelinski, and two dogs Whelen and Tracker, who spent every last minute by his side. They enjoyed working in the garden together to later enjoy the fruits of their labor. They also enjoyed side-by-side rides at hunting camp, going fishing together, spending time with family and friends, and taking care of their two fur babies.
An outdoorsman at heart, Jeff spent much of his time in the woods or on the lake. Hunting for whitetail deer and turkey were two of his passions but he never turned down an opportunity to get out on the lake, whether it was on the ice or taking his boat out to fish. Doing these things with his brother, Keith, was ideal, but just being able to talk about it with him came in close second.
Jeff was a staple in the community. Whether it was plowing snow, mowing lawns, helping someone build a deck, fixing something, or co-coaching the Crown Point Varsity softball team, Jeff dedicated his life serving family, friends, and his community.
Jeff was an athlete, and a competitive one at that. Although he loved to win, he was a selfless teammate, which was a trait that extended beyond his athletic career. He will be remembered for his talent, mentorship, and beaming smile every time the pitches he called were a success.
The most important thing to Jeff was his family, which extended to the group of friends he deeply cherished. His sense of humor and booming laughter was a staple to our family and all who knew him. He kept our memories alive through his storytelling. Once he started telling a story, the room would be filled with life and laughter. His family will keep his memory alive through his stories while he continues to laugh with his sister Michelle in Heaven.
Jeff is survived by his parents Michael and Lynn Ross; his brother, Keith Ross, his wife Elizabeth, and their daughter Kaitlin; his life partner Kathryn Zelinski; his niece Chelsea Loitsch, her husband Michael, and their children Lucy and Cedar; his nephew Michael DuShane, his wife Megan, and their children Isaiah Spaulding and Beauen and Reese DuShane; his nephew Erick DuShane; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends and neighbors.
He is predeceased by his grandfathers, Donald Ross and Alex Savage; his grandmothers, Frances Ross and Maude Savage; his uncles, Tony Savage, Albert Ross, and Charles Hayes; and his sister Michelle DuShane.
Calling hours will be held Friday, April 11, 2025 from 4 to 7pm at Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry, NY. Interment will follow at the Ironville Cemetery in Crown Point, NY. The family would like to extend an invitation to a reception that will be held at The Barns at the Edgemont Inn in Moriah, NY to celebrate Jeff’s life.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the community for their continuous thoughts, prayers, and support throughout Jeff’s life and especially during this last stage of his life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeff’s memory to a scholarship fund that will be awarded to a student athlete who is going into the healthcare field. Donations can be made in the form of a check written to Michael and Lynn Ross while this account is being established.
