James E Pepper 73 formerly of Moriah NY passed away after a lengthy illness at Elderwood of Uihlein in Lake Placid NY on 8/18/2022. He was born in Cheever, NY on October 21, 1948, the son of the late James C. Pepper and Janet (Blowers) Pepper.
James also known as Jim, or Pepper worked for many years driving cement truck and hauling milk for local farmers. He loved watching the railroad, socializing, and spending time with family and friends. The last 8 years he had spent time making friends and developing relationships with his nursing home caregivers and friends. His biggest enjoyment was telling stories and giving a big warm hug. Before entering the nursing home, you could see him riding around on his scooter visiting with old friends, new friends, and strangers. He would never give up an opportunity to visit no matter who you were, or where he was. Jim enjoyed listening to music from local artist. During his younger years he spent time going to blue grass festivals with his dad. There were not many people that you could bring up in discussion that Jim didn’t know.
He was predeceased by parents James and Janet Pepper and one Brother-in-law Elmer Ashe. He is survived by 3 daughters Darcie Goff (Kevin Jr), Tara Ploof (Wyatt), and Alicia Odell (Josh). 10 grandchildren Emily Estus, Mark Estus, Kevin Goff III, Kadien Goff, Ian Ploof, Ethan Ploof, Brayden O’Dell, Kobie O’Dell, Sophia Ellsworth and Alivia Ellsworth, a sister Barbara Ashe and many other friends and family.
The family wants to extend their gratitude and thanks to the many caregivers he has had over the last 8 years. Most recently to those that have grown to love him at Elderwood in Lake Placid.
There will be no calling hours, a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Donations can be made in his memory to any activities department at local nursing homes to help others enjoy music and entertainment.
