Jack Hargett Sr., age 77, of Mineville, New York, passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2026. Jack was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life touched many. He was known for his strong presence, sense of humor, and love for his family. He was active in his community and played a role in keeping the Eagles Club going, contributing to its continued presence and activity over the years. He will also be remembered for the many years he spent at tracks across New York State, actively owning, training, and racing Standardbreds — simply doing what he loved most. Jack was preceded in death by his long-time companion, Elaine Valvik; his son, Tim Hargett; and his son-in-law, Glenn Burdick. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Burdick; his son, Jack Hargett Jr. (Tasha Hargett); the mother of his children, Patty Ives; and the widow of Tim Hargett, Terri Hargett, along with his grandchildren: Justin and Joshua Hargett; Jessica Hamilton (Joe Hamilton); Mikala Sexton (Brian Mesec); Dylan Burdick (Elizabeth Herkalo); Amy Kuhn; Hunter Donaldson (Justin Green); Carson Hargett (Alexis Reed); and Connor Hargett (Summer Hargett). He was also blessed with an abundance of great-grandchildren who filled his heart with joy. Though he will be missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace, free from frailties, and remembered with love by those he leaves behind. A memorial will be held at the Eagles Club in Moriah at a date and time to be announced.
Where hooves meet track and mornings begin before sunrise, he knew the quiet strength of the trot and the joy of every stride — trot on.
