Iris Zapolski Obituary

Iris Anne Zapolski passed away peacefully at her home on December 11, 2025 with her loved ones by her side after a courageous and inspiring battle against Pancreatic cancer.

Born on October 30th, 1951 in Natick, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Iris Wehrman. Growing up, Iris resided in many places but her most cherished home was on Baldwin Road in Ticonderoga which established unforgettable memories with her siblings. She attended Ticonderoga Central High School and was part of the graduating class of 1969. She enjoyed attending class reunions and catching up with old friends.

Iris was employed by the Super 8 Motel where she met life long friends whom she remained in contact with over the years. She started her career at Walmart in 1998 when it first opened. This past August, she celebrated her 27 year anniversary with the company making her one of the longest employed associates. Iris would jokingly say she opened the store as she was one of the original employees still dedicated to her team. Iris formed wonderful friendships with coworkers who would become more like family, and customers adored her.

On July 21, 1994 she married the love of her life, John Zapolski Jr. They created a lot of memorable moments but some of their favorites were softball tournaments, sitting by the fire and having large gatherings with friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Iris was preceded in death by her brother Fred and her husband John. Survivors include her sisters Jenny and Pam, daughters Carrie (Tom), Heather (Chris), Suzanne (Dan), Emily (Jimmy), Mary (Bob), and Ashley (Mike). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest blessings. Grandchildren include Mara, Avery, Torrie, Karyssa, Gavin, Kaitlin, Addison, Bryce, James, Darrick, Jace, Landon, and Delaney. Great-grandchildren include Murphy, Harper, and Oliver. Iris had two stepchildren Kristin Zapolski (her children) and John Zapolski III.

Iris enjoyed watching her grandchildren at their sporting events, spending time in the pool, playing cards and winning her sister Jenny’s money, and waiting for her ruby-throated hummingbird to stop by. Nothing compared to the tradition of Sunday dinners at her home on Amy Hill Road which began 6 years ago. She enjoyed watching her children bond and her grandchildren play. She was the life of the party especially when “Elvira” came on. Most recently, Iris enjoyed a trip to Tupper Lake with her 6 girls which left lasting memories for all such as karaoke at the brewery and sitting on the beach at Little Wolf Campsite.

Per Iris’ wishes there will be no services.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported them during this challenging time.
