Born in Crown Point, NY on June 18, 1942 to Frances (Delaire) and Walter McMurtry. Chappy lost a long battle with Cancer at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on July 20, 2020.
Chappy was a young man when he took a job with Cross Co. out of White River Vt. delivering to Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. In addition to his job with Cross Co. he purchased his own Tractor which took him cross country. He loved being a Truck driver and he loved telling the stories of the people he met along the way.
It was1980 in a small dance hall in Ludlow Vt. he met his wife and best friend, Dorothy. They married on Oct. 22, 2004. Together they enjoyed years of trips to Nascar races in Florida and during race season Chappy could be found at any track from Claremont, NH to Plattsburg NY.
When he was forced into retiring to battle Cancer he continued to travel between treatments. Chappy never chose to put his life on hold for Cancer, he managed to make time for the things that were important to him. Spending time with friends and family or sitting by an open fire feeding wild animals and listening to good ole country music.
His love for animals both domestic and wild was his lifelong passion. Chappy would rescue strays and through his work with Angel Connections, he would make contributions to help with costs associated with the need to reduce reproduction and then to find forever homes for them. Adopting several himself through the years.
Left behind to treasure his memory is his devoted wife Dorothy, his sister, Sharon (her husband, Gene) Wilson, his son, Arnold McMurtry, his daughters, Celeste Beeman and Claudia O'Connor, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
