Harold Joseph Ferguson, a lifelong resident of Port Henry, NY, passed away on December 4, 2024, at the age of 82. Born January 22, 1942, in Cheever, a neighborhood in Moriah, N.Y., he was the son of the late Harold Acey Ferguson and Florence Eliza Ploufe. Harold was predeceased by his brother, Larry Acey Ferguson, and his sisters, Rhinda Ann (Ferguson) Brock and Mary Angela (Ferguson) Masse. Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Ferguson, and their three daughters: Danielle Ferguson, Sharon Ferguson, and Nicole Daruwalla, her husband Burzin Daruwalla, and his cherished grandson, Nick Daruwalla. Additional survivors include his sisters, Doris St. Clair, Janice Brewer, Rhea Belden, and Linda Nadeau as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories, joining those loved ones who have gone before him.
First and foremost, Harold was a deeply devoted family man. His dedication to his wife and three girls was boundless, and they were his greatest pride and joy. Harold was a hardworking man who worked many years for the Town of Moriah and previously for the Village of Port Henry, Ticonderoga Mill, and Republic Steel. He was a man of the outdoors and loved the Adirondacks. He had a passion for hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, and the simple joys of nature. He likely spent more time under open skies than indoors, embodying the rugged spirit of a man deeply connected to the land. Known for his sense of humor and stories about family and friends, he could draw you in with every word.
Tough as nails and with a big heart, Harold was a man of honor and integrity, standing firmly by his principles and his Catholic faith. To those who knew him well, his sometimes brusque demeanor only underscored the depth of his principles, kindness, and love.
A man of tireless energy and determination, Harold found joy in spending time with his family, working in his garden, building anything out of anything, welding, and countless other pursuits and projects that kept his hands busy and his mind sharp. His indomitable spirit and sense of humor remained strong through his final days.
Harold’s loss will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he is no longer with us, his stories, strength, and love will be carried forward in the hearts of those he touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 9th, 11:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Crown Point. Burial will be in the Catholic Community of Moriah Cemetery in Moriah with a reception to follow at St. Patrick's parish center in Port Henry.
