Gloria Pratt Obituary

Gloria A. Pratt, 88, of 11 Barton Hill Lane, Witherbee, NY passed away Tuesday, October 6th, 2020 in the comfort of her home.

Gloria was born May 10th, 1932, the daughter of Louis and Emma Burhart.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Kathy Rogers; her grandchildren, Robert Whalen (Karen Almond), Joseph Whalen Jr. (Angie Wallace), Nicole Ward (Bill Ward Jr.); her great grandchildren, Taylor Whalen, Tanner Whalen, and Amelia Whalen; and her sister Joyce Raymond.

She is predeceased by her parents Louis and Emma Burhart; her husband Robert Pratt, and her brother Arthur Burhart.

Gloria, known by loved ones and friends as "Glory", was hardworking, intelligent, and witty.  Her sharp mind and work ethic found a perfect fit as a bookkeeper at the Port Henry Grand Union for many years.  Aside from working, Gloria loved to be outdoors.  Her favorite activities included walking, working in her flowerbeds, and bird watching.  In the summers, Gloria and her sister Joyce vacationed in Maine, and as the two of them aged and were no longer able to travel, they continued to spend a lot of time together, often sitting on the deck having a drink.  Gloria was also a devout Catholic, and when her health no longer allowed her to attend masses, she read through her Roman Missal every night.  Although Gloria struggled with Alzheimer's at the end of her life, she never forgot her sense of humor, and often joked with her family members and caregivers throughout the day.

Above all, Gloria was loving.  Even on her worst days, she showed caring and compassion to those around her.  She devoted her life to her great-grandchildren, grandchildren, daughter and, most of all, her husband of seventy years, Bob.  Gloria was able to keep a level head in any situation and her tranquil presence was the rock that her husband, Bob clung to when his anxieties got the best of him.

In the final years of their lives, Bob and Gloria's last prayers were that they would be called home together.  Ultimately, this prayer was answered and their passings were separated by only two months.  After they both battled terminal illnesses, the family of Bob and Gloria Pratt are content to know that they are both at peace and free of pain.  The family would like to thank the nurses, friends and family members who helped to care for these two very special people in their final days.

Due to the Covid pandemic, services will be private.  Her burial will be on Saturday, October 10th at St. Peter and Paul cemetery in Moriah.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
