Genevieve Haley Obituary

Genevieve Huchro Haley (Gena) passed away peacefully on March 27, 2020 at her home in Euless, TX where she resided for the past 10 years with her eldest son George William Haley Jr. as she battled Alzheimer's disease.

Gena was born October 1,1925 in Mineville, NY to Martin and Victoria Huchro. Gena was a graduate of Mineville High School and received her RN BS degree from Bellevue Hospital in New York City. She continued her nursing career working as an Army cadet at Fort Lewis, WA during WW II. Upon returning to Mineville, she married her childhood neighbor, George Haley on October 25, 1953.  She was employed by Republic Steel as a nurse at Mineville Hospital until it’s closing.  Gena then worked as Director of Nursing at Horace Nye Nursing Home (Elizabethtown, NY) until her retirement.

In retirement Gena enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren baking, playing on the “magic carpets” and going for rides during the Christmas season singing Christmas carols and looking at all the Christmas lights and decorations.

Gena and her Husband George were devout Catholics always leading by example to instill moral values in their children and grandchildren. Gena is survived by her sons George W. Haley Jr of Euless TX, Paul (Peggy) Haley of Jericho, VT and her daughter Teresa Jenkinson of Gales Ferry, CT; her grandchildren, Michelle (Owen) Jacobs, Mathew (Stefcia) Haley, Jennifer Haley, George (Mary) Haley, Stephen (Kimberly) Jenkinson, Sarah Jenkinson; and great grandchildren Wesley Jacobs, Emerson Jacobs, and Riley Jenkinson; her brothers Walter Huchro (Madeline), Stanley Huchro, sister-in-law Dottie Huchro, many nieces, nephew and friends.  She was predeceased by her son-in-law Jack Jenkinson, her son Michael Stephen Haley and her loving husband of 55 years, George William Haley, Sr.

Unfortunately, the coronovirus is keeping all who loved her from being together at this time. On Monday, April 6th, Paul and Peggy Haley will represent the love and loss of Gena's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives, neighbors, and friends who can't physically be there for a funeral mass at St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry, NY, followed by burial in an empty cemetery. Please remember Gena in your prayers especially on April 6th. Arrangements are being handled by Harland Funeral Home.  There will be a Celebration of Gena’s life in better times.  Memorial contributions in Gena’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/).
