Elaine Childs Butterfield passed away peacefully with her three daughters by her side on 4/23/2021 at Elderwood at Ticonderoga.
Elaine was born October 5, 1925 to Allen and Lila (Peters) Childs. She married Harold “Butter” Butterfield on June 2, 1947 at The Little Church around the corner in New York City.
Elaine is survived by her daughters Lila (Edward) Gilbo of Massena, NY, Bonnie (Larry) Cutting of Moriah, NY, Lynn (Edwin) Donahue of Crown Point, NY, her beloved grandsons Jason (Kaitlin) Gilbo of Massena, NY and Justin (Julianne) Gilbo of Norfolk, VA, Great Grandchildren Zoe, Mia, Jacksen, and Jupiter Gilbo, a brother Raymond Childs of Port Henry, NY and several nieces and nephews.
Elaine was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her siblings Sherman Childs, Floyd Childs, and Lucy White.
Elaine was a proud Port Henry native. She graduated from Port Henry High School in 1944. She worked as a Bookkeeper for Gilbo & Sons Hardware store for 16 years. She retired from Simmonds Precision in 1987 after 18 years. She was a member of the Town of Moriah Country Club for over 50 years and could be found on Tuesdays during the summer playing in the ladies golf league. Elaine was also a member of the ladies bowling league at the Mineville VFW lanes for many years.
Elaine was an avid New York Giants football fan through the good and the bad seasons. She also loved to play cards especially pinochle. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Keene Valley Neighborhood House for the dedicated loving care Elaine received in the 6 years she lived there. We also thank Elderwood at Ticonderoga for their care and kindness at the end of Elaine’s life.
There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 11:00 am, at the Union Cemetery, Port Henry.
Memorial donations in Elaine’s memory can be made to the Port Henry Fire Department or the North Country SPCA.
