Crown Point. Edwin C. Tuthill, 79 of Crown Point, passed peacefully Wednesday, February 25, 2026 after a brief and unexpected cancer diagnosis. He left this world just as he lived in it: with a kind heart, a sharp wit, and a joke ready for anyone who needed a smile.
Born in Ticonderoga on July 21, 1946, to the late Charles F. and Marion K. (Villmore) Tuthill, he was one of four children and was predeceased by his sister Diane Tuthill (Masse) Flanagan and his brother Loren "BoBo" Tuthill. He is survived by his sister, Charleen Tuthill of Plattsburgh.
A 1965 graduate of Crown Point Central School and lifelong resident of Ironville he married the girl next door, Gail (DuShane)Tuthill on April 12, 1969 and for 24 years raised two daughters together.
Ed was a true caretaker, steward, and outdoorsman.
His dedication to conservation was reflected in his work with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Essex County Fish Hatchery, and Essex County Soil and Water, where he retired from his conservation career. He later began a second career as a CNA and medical transport driver at Elderwood of Ticonderoga, where he took great pride in caring for people.
His desire to serve, volunteer, and share was evident as he was a fountainhead of wisdom for family, friends, community, & really anyone willing to listen. He was always ready with a story, a fact, or a lesson. A generous knowledge sharer, Ed never hoarded his expertise, believing instead that the greatest gift one could give was the empowerment of others through knowledge & learning. His commitment to community service was extensive.
He served as Town Justice for 12 years, volunteered as a firefighter and EMT, was a 4-H leader, and supported local youth through his involvement with the Boy Scouts. He was also a proud member of the Freemasons lodge in Ticonderoga and an active supporter of the Penfield Homestead Museum. Ed cherished his many opportunities to lend a helping hand and especially valued time spent talking and sharing stories with family and friends. He will long be remembered as a man whom knew many things and collected all things.
He is survived by his two daughters, Victoria Tuthill Russell (John) and Jennifer Tuthill Sours (Matthew), both of Crown Point; five grandchildren, Jarrett and Ryan Russell, and Marissa, Dylan, and Gavin Sours; two great-grandchildren, Aubree and Zev; his sister Charleen; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the pavilion at the Penfield Homestead Museum.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the McClure Miller Respite House or to Crown Point Boy Scouts Troop 70.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry.
