Dwight Anson Obituary

Dwight Bassett Anson Jr., 88, of Wadhams, NY, passed away in the early morning hours of December 18, 2025, with his wife, Lilia, by his side.

Dwight was born in Elizabethtown, NY, on June 5, 1937, to Dwight Bassett Anson and Polly Adelia Newton. He was the third of four siblings: Bernard, Alva, and Douglas.

In his youth, Dwight worked and delivered milk for Anson’s Dairy throughout Essex County. He loved sports and was active in basketball and baseball, graduating from Westport Central in 1955 after earning several athletic awards. He was a devoted supporter of his younger brother Doug, who also excelled in sports.

In 1959, Dwight married Patricia Taber, and together they traveled to Alaska, where he worked on the DEW Line outside Fairbanks and welcomed the birth of their daughter, Deborah. They later returned to New York, where their daughter, Teresa, was born. He then hauled house trailers across several states before beginning a more than 30-year career delivering gasoline for Mobil Oil.

He married Lilia Rendon in 1992, and they moved to the family farm on Elizabethtown–Wadhams Road, where Dwight cherished memories of working the land with family. After retirement, he continued working, hauling gravel and plowing snow for friends and neighbors.

Dwight valued helping others and the camaraderie of small-town life. He will be remembered for his quick wit, hearty laugh, and love of classic country music. He often said that while he may not go to church to pray, being outdoors meant he was in God’s greatest church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Douglas and Bernard; his sister, Alva (Wildermuth); and three nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Lilia, of 33 years; his daughters, Deborah Goslin (Bill Goslin) of Montana and Teresa Anson (Bill Smith) of Virginia; his grandchildren, Daniel Andersen and Laura Goslin (Joel Isaacs); and his great-grandchildren, Remington, Emilie, and Desmond. He is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Please join us in celebrating Dwight on Tuesday, December 30th, at 11 am. Service will be held at Westport Federated Church,

6486 Main Street, Westport, NY.
