Dorothy Mae Kordziel, 90, of Mineville, NY passed away on January 14, 2022. She was born on June 4, 1931. She was the daughter of Sheldon and Frances Fleming. Dot was predeceased by her husband John Kordziel, Sr. on November 10, 2004. They were married on July 10, 1949, for 55 years.
Dot was also predeceased by her sisters Betty Pattison (Warren), Audrey Young, her brother Gary Fleming, brother-in-laws Lloyd Laslow and George Evens and grandson Kyle Wykes.
She is survived by four children: John Kordziel Jr., Joseph Kordziel (Neil), Julie Harris (John), and Janet Sleeper (Richie). Her sisters: Mary Ann Laslow, Diane Hargett (Emmett), Judy Marcotte (Napoleon), Sally Evens, and sister-in-law Linda Fleming. Her brothers: Percy Fleming (Janet) and Randy Fleming (Juanita).
Dot’s grandchildren: Penny Shrodek, (Larry), Brandi Kordziel (Kenny Herwerth), Adam Kordziel, Kane Sleeper (Erica), Cody Sleeper (Carly), Ryan Herderich (Walter), Jamie Wykes and Valerie Wykes.
Her great grandchildren: Bryce Herwerth, Lazarus Shrodek, Lysias Shrodek, Easton Sleeper, Colin Sleeper, Monroe Sleeper, and Jace Herderich.
Dot went to Moriah High School and worked for Frontier Town, Dominicks Pizza, and Gunnison’s Apple Orchard. She served as a swimming instructor for several years at Moriah School (open night swimming). She taught many people how to swim young and old.
She enjoyed bowling, skating, flower gardening, sewing, and swimming. Dot loved Boston Terriers and bred them. She owned several Boston Terriers throughout her life and all of them started with the letter “P.” With her love for sewing, she made some of her own curtains, blankets, etc. Dot made beautiful dresses for her daughters and their dolls. She was a great supporter for the animal shelter and a voice for the protection of abused animals. She enjoyed feeding all her feathered friends in the back yard, blue jays and cardinals were some of her favorites.
We were lucky to have her for so many years and she will be forever in our hearts.
Per Dot’s request there will be no public calling hours. There is a funeral mass on Friday January 21st at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry.
