Doris M. McGinness, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 6, 2024. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years John McGinness. Doris was one of four children born to the late Clarence and Bessie (Beeman) Sprague.
Doris attended Our Lady of Victory Secretarial School in Plattsburgh after graduating from Moriah high school. Doris and John were married August 11, 1956 and she devoted herself to raising their family. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and cooking everything from scratch.
Doris is survived by her six children: Elaine Smith, Anne Marie (Dale) Smith, Michael (Carol) McGinness, Nancy Uvyn, Patrick (Mary Hope) McGinness, David (William Shannon) McGinness. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert Smith II and Curtis John Smith; Jessica Smith, Jennifer Smith and Hannah Rissler; David McGinness, Paul Irwin, and Elizabeth McGinness; Lindsey Panasci and Jordan McGinness; Michelle Uvyn and Alex Uvyn; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris is survived by her sister Eleanor Shea and predeceased by her siblings Harold Sprague and Francis Sprague.
The family would like to thank the Moriah Ambulance Squad and High Peaks Hospice for always showing compassion and kindness to Doris and John.
A private memorial will be held at South Moriah Cemetery on June 10th.
