Dale French Obituary

Dale French of Crown Point passed away at the UVM Medical Center on July 29, 2022. He was born in Elizabethtown, NY to Howard and Marie French on September 30, 1947.

Upon graduation from Crown Point Central School in 1965 Dale went on to Clarkson College of Technology (now Clarkson University) graduating in 1970 and began his engineering career at Hudson Gas and Electric in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Upon marriage to Jeris Batchelder in 1973 the couple located in Maryland where Dale began work in the nuclear power industry at the Bechtel plant at Indian Point.

After three years Dale became a job shop engineer and the couple moved to various locations including Oswego, NY, Midland Michigan, Port St. Lucie, Fl and Plum Island, NH.

In 1982 the couple and two daughters settled in Crown Point and Dale became a log home builder for the Alta company.

In 1989 Dale became a spokesperson for the property rights organization Adirondack Solidarity Alliance formed to oppose the environmentalist effort “The Adirondacks 21st Century Commission Report.” This led him to election as Crown Point town supervisor serving 1996-2009. He was elected chairman of the Essex County Board of Supervisors in 2002 and 2003.

Upon retirement from politics Dale focused on developing agriculture at their property on “the bridge turn”, an endeavor that continues with the new generation.

Dale is predeceased by their two daughters Rebecca French Arno and Shana French.

Survivors include his wife Jeris French, brother Larry French of Crown Point, sisters Yvonne Peck of Watertown and Shelley Glebus of Schroon Lake, grandsons Calvin and Alec Arno, and son-in-law Alan Arno.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Crown Point Methodist Church, Crown Point, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Church in Crown Point or to the Crown Point United Methodist Church.
