Candyce Harrington passed away on Wednesday, June 2nd surrounded by family. Candy was born on October 11, 1948 in Boston, MA. She met Charles Harrington while they were both camp counselors at Silver Towers Camp in Brookfield, Vermont, and they married on April 25, 1970. After attending Cosmetology School at Sheldon Academy of Beauty Culture in Burlington, VT, she eventually opened her own beauty salon in Crown Point, NY in the late 1970s. Candy also helped run the family business (Harrington’s Greenhouse), and later her love of antiques branched into a second career as an antiques dealer.
Throughout her life, Candy volunteered many hours to the Ticonderoga Festival Guild, the Hammond Public Library, the Crown Point Food Pantry, and the Elderwood Nursing Home. As a beautician she would often make ‘house calls’ to the elderly, and those who couldn’t travel, and provided her services at the assisted living facility, Montcalm Manor, in Ticonderoga.
Candy could often be found tending her flower and vegetable gardens, taking long walks in the woods with her dog at her side, or planning her annual trips to Maine to visit the ocean. She was a wonderful cook who loved hosting big meals and celebrations for friends and family. Memories of Candy often center on her delicious cooking, or the beautiful bouquets she would pick from her gardens to surprise her friends and family, or, quite possibly, her hilarious comebacks and spitfire one-liners.
Candy had a big heart and was loved by her family and her surrounding community. All who knew her will miss her witty humor, kind words, and generosity of spirit. Candy is survived by her husband Charles, daughter Elisha, son Owen, daughter-in-law Jessica, and her grandchildren (Brayden, Camden, and Annabelle) as well as her siblings Tracey Whelan, Kimberly Peck, and Jonathan Peck. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday 11 am, June 8th at the Methodist Church in Crown Point, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Candyce’s name may be made to the Northeastern New York chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
