Beverly Ann (Balch) Price
Beverly Price, former resident of Deerfield and Clinton, NY, died Monday, July 8th at Elderwood at Ticonderoga Nursing Home. She was born February 1, 1930 in Utica, NY, the 4th child and only daughter of Joseph Harold Balch and Anna Wood Balch.
Bev spent her early years in Westmoreland, NY. She had many happy memories of riding the family saddlehorse, of being a “paper girl” for the Rome Daily Sentinel, and of her prize-winning Bantam chickens. Bev graduated from Westmoreland Central School at the age of 15, one of the youngest Regents graduates on record at that time at that school. She then received certification in elementary education and special education at SUNY Geneseo.
Upon completion of “my four best years in school” she joined the faculty at Potter School in Utica. Bev treasured the lifelong friendships made there – faculty, parents and students. During these years, Bev served as an officer of the PTA, school union representative, and a member of the executive board of the Cosmopolitan Center of Utica.
On July 30th, 1960, Bev and Russell E Price of Utica were married. After spending several years at home caring for their children, her mother and great-aunt, Bev returned to teaching at Poland Central School.
In the 1970’s Bev became interested in genealogy, tracing a family line from the late 1500’s in Somerset England to Beverly Massachusetts in 1623 and then to Herkimer and Oneida counties. Bev joined the Oneida County Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), serving as Scholarship Committee Chair, senior president and adviser of the Children of the American Revolution (CAR), and 1st Vice Regent.
Bev was a member of several historical societies and a member and former elder of North Gage Church.
Bev was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her three brothers (Clifford, Carlton, and Harland Balch).
Bev leaves behind her daughters and son-in laws, Diane Price (Chris Zito), and Carolyn (Patrick) Ida and a granddaughter, Lillith Ida (fiancé Thomas Roy).
The family would like to thank the staff at Elderwood for always showing compassion and kindness to Bev.
Keeping with Bev’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Memorials may be made to your local library to celebrate Bev’s love of reading.
