Barbara Rice Obituary

Breaking the hearts of those who knew and loved her, Barbara Jean Rice passed away at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, on Thursday, the 18th of January, after a short illness. Barbara was born on April 4th, 1950, in Lynwood, California, to Raymond Clark and Lessie Grace (Lee) Clark. On March 30th, 1985, she married the love of her life, Daniel Marvin Rice, in St. George, Utah.

Barbara and Dan built their home on a low hill overlooking White Church Road in Crown Point, NY. Their home was often filled with happy sounds as family and friends held pool parties, had barbecues, and swung on the large back deck overlooking the apple trees. Barbara was central to creating these moments of joy. Outside the home, Barbara worked as a nurse at Moses-Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga before her retirement. Additionally, Barbara was deeply compassionate, and lovingly cared for disabled adults in her home for over 25 years. Her warmth and kindness expanded the meaning of family. Barbara was always very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in both Westport, New York, and Middlebury, Vermont.

Left to cherish Barbara’s memory is her husband, Daniel; her son, Michael (Leeann Slattery) Rice, and their six children; by her daughters, April Margaret Bain-Lynch and Candace Irene Gosselin-Lynch and their families. She is also survived by her stepsons, David Rice and Nathan Rice, and their families; by Sisters Becky Bates, Bonnie Maingot and Gail Reilly. Brothers Thom, Ken, David, and Scott Clark. Barbara was predeceased by her parents and her daughter, Ashley Ella Rice. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Lee and Bruce Clark, and Bob Romero.

Arrangements will be under the care of the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, New York. Burial will be in the White Church Cemetery in Crown Point, New York. The burial service is planned for Thursday, May 2nd at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life.
