Addie Jane Pattison of Moriah passed away peacefully at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital on Sunday evening September 1, 2024. She was born on March 25, 1925, the eldest child of Perl and Harriet (Brown) Whitford. She was predeceased by her husband Melville E. Pattison, all six of her brothers: Barney (Betty), Bob (Marion), Leon, Karl (Dot), Charlie (Anna), Don (Darlene) as well as a sister, Bernice who died shortly after birth, and a grandson, Steaphan Greene.
She is survived by her cherished sister-in-law, Dot, as well as her four sons: Pat (Shelly- Maryland, NY), Keith (Deb-Kingsbury, NY), Brian (Theta-Altamont, NY), and Alan (Cheryl-Southaven, MS). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews of multiple generations.
Major life events for Addie included at age 16, the death of her mother. Thus she became the key female presence in the upbringing of her brothers. After graduating as valedictorian Addie attended a secretarial school in NYC, then returned to Moriah to take a job with Republic Steel. In 1950 she married Mel. Other employment included bookkeeping for Vetters Milk Company,clerk at the local clothing store, and providing day care to neighboring children. Addie was active with community charities including serving as Treasurer of the South Moriah Cemetery Association and as President of the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church. She and Mel celebrated 42 years of marriage before he passed in 1992.
A graveside funeral will be held at the South Moriah Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 5th followed by a memorial luncheon at the Moriah Firehouse. If you plan to attend please call or text Pat at 607-386-5576 or Keith at 518-222-7258 before September 28th.
