Theresa M. (McKiernan) Young

Theresa M. Young of 37 Brook St., Port Henry, NY passed away at University of Vermont Medical Center on May 23, 2019.

She was born in North Hudson on Feb. 8, 1920, the daughter of Patrick and Florence (DeZalia) McKiernan.

Early in her life she was a homemaker and volunteered many hours at St. Patrick’s Church and School in Port Henry. Later in her life she worked for Mountain and Valley In-Home Services in Elizabethtown, NY. She also worked privately as a home health aide. She spent many enjoyable summers with her family at the Eagle Lake camp.

She married her husband, Walter F. Young April 26, 1937 at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry, NY. Theresa spent her entire life in Port Henry. She lived a very full and active life.

Her home was always open to family and friends who were greeted with a smile and invitation to sit and visit. She was a great cook, known especially for her pies and fudge.

Her greatest love was for her family. One could not wish for a better mother, grandmother and friend.

She is survived by her son Walter C. Young and grandsons Ryan and Sean and granddogs Jessie and Ryea, 87 Richmond Dr., Queensbury, She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Walter, brothers, Laurence McKiernan and James McKiernan and stepfather Walter Kuder.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Harland Funeral Home. At Theresa’s request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 pm,  Wednesday, May 29 at St. Patrick’s Church in Port Henry, NY.

Burial will be private and held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in her name to North Country SPCA, 7700 NY-9N,  Elizabethtown, NY 12932.
