Gladys T. Mauran, 96, passed away on September 6th, 2018, at the UMV-CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Westport on April 19, 1922 to the late Chester and Clara (Edwards) DeGroff.
On June 27th, 1940 she married her life partner, Irving W. Mauran and enjoyed 69 years of marriage before the Lord called him home. In early years of marriage, they lived in Mineville, NY. and 1957 they built their home in Westport enjoying nature and the vista around them.
Gladys worked at several jobs including Horace Nye Home, Elizabethtown Hospital and Westport Central School. Her nature was to help everyone often taking people to appointments, shopping or just drive around and have an ice cream treat. Her life centered around her entire family.
She was a role model for volunteerism, being instrumental in establishing Cub Scouts in Mineville and Westport as well as helping with the formation of the Drum Corp in Moriah. She played the organ at the Moriah Baptist Church. As a member of the Westport Federated Church she taught Sunday School, directed the junior choir and sang in the choir for many years.
She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Rebekah Lodge, Wadhams Grange and Republican Women. She served as President of the local American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She will be rememberd for the years of dedication to the Westport Memorial Day service honoring our Veterans.
Loved ones she is reunited in Heaven with are her parents, husband, 5 siblings Vivian Borden, Vera Burzee, Rose Keating, Chester and Carlos DeGroff and son in law Donald McQueen.
Surviving loved ones are her 4 children and spouses. Sandra McQueen, Brenda (Bill) LaHendro, Irving (Cheryl) Mauran and Derinda (Sam) Sherman. 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be Tuesday September 11th, 6 to 8pm at Harland Funeral Home. On Wednesday, a funeral service will be held at the Westport Federated Church at 1pm.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Westport Federated Church for special projects.
