Hookie Laing passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Albany Veterans Community Living Center, August 16, 2018.
He was born in Crown Point to Cora (Taylor) and Marvin Laing. He graduated from SCI and entered the Army 60th engineers Battalion 35th Infantry and served in World War II. He is a Purple Heart recipient.
He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, too often “rowed the boat”. If he was not doing these things, he was telling his stories about them, which we will so miss.
He married the love of his life Ursula (Hartmann) 68 years ago. They ran a dairy farm and slaughter house.
He is survived by Ursula, their six children, Nancy (Jake) Tromblee, Carol Hume and Don Gibbs, Susan (Lem) Treadway, Richard (Bev) Laing, Cathy (Phil) LeBlanc, Judy (Paul) Strack; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and Aunt Mariah whom helped raise him and his siblings, Evelyn, Basheba, Lillian, Florence, and Freddie.
Calling hours will be held Monday, August 20, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, NY. A full Military Honor funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 1t 11:30 am at the United Methodist Church, Moriah, NY, officiated by Rev. Shaw. Burial will be in South Moriah Cemetery, Moriah, NY.
