Elizabeth (Betty Knapp) Hall

TICONDEROGA – Elizabeth (Betty Knapp) Hall, a recent resident of Heritage Commons Nursing Home, died Tuesday, August 29, 2017, age 90, with her loving family in attendance, after a long illness.

Betty was born in Wilmington, NY; July 16, 1927, the eldest of 6 children of Rolland and Susan (Perkins) Knapp. After school, Betty married Gordon Hall in 1948 at the First Congregational Church in Keene Valley. When he passed away in 1977, Betty completed her associate’s degree and went to work for the Essex County Youth Commission for many years.

Betty was a brilliant woman, who was generous of heart. She did not impose on others, but if you gave her half a chance, she would teach you everything she knew.

Betty's great joys included spending time with her grandchildren, crafting using knit and crochet, and finding new sushi restaurants to share with family. Throughout her life, she was an active member in the Congregational churches of Keene Valley and, later, Crown Point.

Researching family history was Betty’s passion, which she came by naturally through her father.  Rolland was a contributor to the Knapp family publications of Alfred Averill Knapp. Betty spent countless hours of research in cemeteries, libraries, and public offices and archives. She was a descendent of Adinirom Parrot, a founder of Plattsburgh; of Thomas Storrs, a founder of Barnstable, Mass.; and of Nathaniel Cutler, a founder of Reading, Mass., as well as of Nicholas Knapp, the founder of the family in America.

Betty was predeceased by her parents and her husband, her son Curtis, her grandson Garry, her step-grandson Gregg Trask, as well as two of her brothers, Rolland Jr., and Fred.

Betty’s survivors include: three siblings -- Barbara Warner of CT and WV, Conrad of NY and VT, and Roger of MA; five children -- Robin of Crown Point, Zane of Clifton Park, Tanya of PA, Dale of Crown Point, and Gordon Jr. (Keith) of Lake Placid; eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

There will be no viewing hours. Services will be held this Saturday, Sept. 2nd, 11:00 am, at the First Congregational Church in Crown Point with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational Church; 7 Park Ave:  in Crown Point.  Burial in the Reber cemetery will be at the family’s convenience. Harland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. To leave condolences for the family please visit www.harlandfuneralhome.com.
