DOROTHY VIRGINIA RICKARD GROSHANS

Dorothy Virginia Rickard Groshans was born in Wheeling, West Virginia January 5, 1927. She recently moved from Lake Forest Senior Care, Plattsburgh NY where she had been living since 2000, to the Champlain Valley Senior Care Center in Willsboro, NY.
She was known for her home-cooked meals, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and playing the piano. She was very involved in the Women’s Society and Missions of the United Methodist Church. She lovingly graced all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with her many crafts; sweaters, afghans, quilts, mittens, hats and needlepoint/embroidered hangings for their walls.
She met and married the love of her life, William Allen Groshans while they attended the United Methodist Church in Oneonta. She graduated from Oneonta State Teacher’s College and taught school for a year in Cortland while her husband Bill finished classes at Hartwick College. She and Bill ministered together in several United Methodist churches in Troy Conference. In retirement they settled in Moriah Center, NY before she later moved to Lake Forest.
She is survived by her children: Emma (Chuck) Taylor, William (Beth) Groshans, Jr. and Elizabeth (Beth) Coles. She has 8 living grandchildren: Wally (Tracey) Warren, Jonathan (Siobhan) Warren, Heather O’Keefe, Heidi (Adam) Mullin, Hans (May) Groshans, Jennifer (Steve) Lloyd, Rachel (Dylan) Reed and Rebecca Coles. She has 18 living great grandchildren: Nichole Walker, Jeffrey Walker, Tre Lloyd, Elijah Nix, Mason Lloyd, Brady Warren, Troy Mullin, Hannah Warren, Cole Reed, Felicity Mullin, Joel Lloyd, Lydia Warren, Kenly Reed, Dominick Schoenacker, Eloise Reed, Charles Schoenacker, Avery Groshans, and Kannon Lloyd; 2 great great grandchildren Aaliyah and Jaxon Freelove; her sister Julia and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by: her husband Rev. William A. Groshans, a grandson Jeffrey James Walker, a great grandson Maddox Richard Warren, son-in-law Robert Coles, her sister Helen and her parents Grover and Ethel Rickard.
The family has asked for donations to be made in her name to your local church or to the American Cancer Society.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church. Funeral Arrangements are made with Harland Funeral Home.
