Alice Carey Obituary

ALICE K. CAREY:  New Port Richey, FL and Port Henry, NY

                                                                October 27, 1922 – July 28, 2018

Alice was born the eighth child of James Donahue and Mary (Downey) of Mineville, NY.  Alice was predeceased by her parents and siblings:  Marie (Phillip) LaFountain, James Donahue, II, Florence (Arthur) LaFountain, Helen (Royal) Tompkins, Mary (Harold) Newton, Agnes (Joseph) Pierce, Evelyn (Roland) Phinney, Blanche (Robert) Brown and Michael Donahue (WW II).  By (the love of her life) her husband (Robert) Bob Carey. Her nephew Michael Gelina and nieces Rita LaFountain and Carol Phinney Plonka, great-nephew Brian Dougan and great-niece Abigale C. Trybendis whom she adored and they spent much quality time together.  Abigale would spend her time in Florida painting, doing yard work (whatever Aunt Allie had on her list) and fishing in the back yard.

Alice is survived by her nephew Michael LaFountain, nieces Mari Trybendis and Sue (Patrick) Dougan.  Great-niece Jennifer (Eric) Carson.  Jennifer spent almost every summer visiting her “special aunt and uncle”.  Great-niece Heather Dougan.  Great-nephews Brian (Jessica) Plonka and Christopher (Kelly) Plonka.  Great-great nieces Courtney (Jesse Lee) Carson, Courtney was always doing Aunt Allie’s hair, nails and makeup, assisting her with the outfit of the day.  Jesse would take pictures until she yelled at him to stop all while she was primping for the next one!  Flannery Dougan, Olivia Plonka, Kaitleyn Plonka, Madison Plonka.  Great-great nephews Stephen (Tracee Boyea) Carson, Joseph Carson.  Stephen, Joseph and Jess were always there to help their Aunt walk, move her from place to place and race in her wheelchair till she would yell at them to be careful of her car! They spent such quality time with her.  Ethan Plonka and Maxwell Dougan Hewett.  Great-great-great niece Braylen Lee who fondly called her “AA” and every Friday night would start “we visit AA tomorrow”?  AA would beam with arms open wide when she saw Braylen coming to her!  She wouldn’t stop until Braylen was in her lap. They both enjoyed their visits and dining out.  Great-great-great nephew Kolter Lee who she so enjoyed holding “her sweet boy”!

By education Alice was a Beautician, because they traveled with her husband’s position she was a homemaker, world traveler and volunteered at local hospitals.  Alice was a wonderful person, caring and always ready to help others.  Those whom she came to know formed a loving, lasting bond.

In 2010 Alice’s nieces Mari, Jennifer and Abigale moved her back home from Florida so they would be able to care for her.  The care was shared amongst the girls as well as Courtney, Stephen, Joseph and Jess.  Mari always said “she was a mom to me!”  She is deeply missed but the knowledge that she is with her angels Bob and Abbie keeps us going.

Alice chose to be laid to rest with her family in the Moriah Community Cemetery.  Viewing is 9:30 am Thursday, August 2, 2018 followed by funeral Mass at 11:00 St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Port Henry, NY.
