Stanley Royden (Speed) Barber

Stanley Barber age 99 passed way peacefully Monday morning at his home in Crown Point surrounded by family, 44 days from his 100th birthday. The birds sang as he rejoined his beloved wife and son in the next life.

He was born December 19th 1917 in Dresden NY, the son of the late Royden and Eunice Barber.

Stanley was predeceased by a son, Peter, his beloved wife Edith Haldenby Barber, and his two sisters Frances Hebert and Agnes Peterson.

He is survived by his five children: Susan Barber and Kelly Barber of Crown Point, Bert Barber and wife Jennifer of Crown Point, Rae Barber and wife Terri of New Hampshire, Jennifer Miller of Oklahoma, and son-in-law Carl Vallee of Crown Point, grandchildren Tracy Sweeting, Christopher Barber, Leslie Soriano and Alex Vallee, great-grandchildren Alejandro and Gabriel Velasquez, Tailey Thatcher, Sophie Soriano, and Carson West and a nephew Donald Peterson and his extended family.

Stanley was called to service in the US Army in February 1942 and served 37 months in Europe during WWII. He was a charter member of the Dresden Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the American Legion in Whitehall, NY.

 He worked a variety of trades, including logging, farming, as an Assessor, Surveyor, carpenter, mechanic, truck driver, laborer, dishwasher, and scrap metal salvage.  He has lived in Crown Point since 1962 and has made many special friends over the years.

A private graveside service for family will be held in Clemons, NY.

There will be a public celebration of his life on Saturday, Nov 11, at 1:00 pm in the basement of the Crown Point Methodist Church.
