MICHAEL A FERNANDEZ    Michael A. Fernandez 60, passed away at his home, on August 26th after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Michael was born in Ticonderoga, New York the son of Louis and Sandra Fernandez.

Michael grew up in Mineville and upon graduating from Moriah Central School attended North Country Community College as well as St. Michael's College in Vermont. He was employed at IBM as a computer programmer until his move to sunny Florida where he began the career he truly loved...website design. It was here where the creation of his own company was born....Webfirstaid.com.

Throughout Michael's journey his one wish was to continue to contribute to someone or something on a daily basis....it was simple for him...he just wanted to make a difference. Prior to Michael's illness he enjoyed downhill skiing, swimming, attending concerts and the great outdoors and all that the Adirondack and Green Mountains had to offer.

The beginning stages of his illness led him to the more simple things in life...long walks along Hollywood Beach, dinners out, beautiful sunsets and time spent with special friends.

As Michael's journey became more challenging his trips became less frequent and he found great comfort in home, family and friends. The remote control became his best friend indulging in his favorite television shows...the nightly news, forensic files, the history channel and the discovery channel. He was quick to share his abundance of knowledge with anyone that would listen.

Michael is survived by his mother Sandra, his daughter Gabrielle, his two sisters Kathleen Thompson and Kelly Cross, his two brothers in law Brian Cross and Brett Thompson, nephew Landon Cross and niece Lauren Cross, many cousins, special friend Mike Mayhood and special caregiver Jessica.

Our family would like to extend a very special thank you to the many people who were a part of Michael's journey. A special thank you to North Country Home Services and Hospice of the North Country.

At Michael's request there will be no calling hours. A celebratory mass will take place at St. Patrick's Church Port Henry on Friday, September 1st at 11:00 am.

Donations in Michael's memory can be made to the SPCA of Westport or Hospice of the North Country. Arrangements are under the direction of Harland's Funeral Home.
